Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 oz red food coloring

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two round 9-inch cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix together the applesauce, almond milk, vegetable oil, apple cider vinegar, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the red food coloring until fully incorporated.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
